Week 5

Past time garments

• Paisley Print- Originally a Kashmiri cone motif which appeared on cashmere scarves, the design was adapted by wool producers in the Scottish town of paisley.                                     

During the French empire period, fashionable women would not step out into a public place without a paisley shawl over their shoulders.                                                     

This jacket is turned inside out to reveal the paisley lining, which is silk-screened with gold patterns.                        

                                                  

• Pointed Waist

A corset fashioned with V-front attains the same stunning effect 17th-century women suffered to achieve.

• Lace 

A lace vest is worn with a silk slip to debunk the myth that lingerie styles should only be seen by the four walls of a bedroom.

    
   

• Watteau Pleats

The interpretations here apply gathers in place of the pleat and are applied to jackets and vests rather than gowns.
